Senior Tax Exemption
School Parcel Taxes
Most school districts in the valley have recently passed parcel taxes with built-in exemptions for Seniors who live in their districts. This means that Seniors meeting the following *criteria can file for the exemption and not have to pay the added tax.
*CRITERIA: (1) You must be 65+ years of age; (2) You must own the property; and, (3) You must live in the property.
IF YOU DO NOT FILE YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY THE TAX.
The amount you save will depend on the school district where you live.
Here are some of the districts that have the Senior Exemption provision in their Parcel Tax measures:

Moreland (Elementary) School District - $142/yr. Savings
Oak Grove (Elementary) - $68/yr. Savings

Cupertino (Elementary) - $250/yr. Savings
Fremont Union High School District - $98/yr. Savings

HOW TO FIND YOUR SCHOOL DISTRICT:
1. Call the District you think is yours & ask, or …
2. Click School Site Locator and enter your address in the search box at the top of the page. Within the San Jose Unified School District(SJUSD) you will see the names of your home schools. Outside SJUSD you will see the names of the elementary & high school districts. To get your Exemption Forms click the link for your district above.
3. If your home is located in more than one district, i.e. Union Elementary & Campbell Union High School, you Must apply to each district separately.
